Woodcarver: Anne Alexander
is a sculptor and art teacher. She works in the mediums of clay and stone and wood. Her sculpture is exhibited in both galleries and exterior sited sculpture exhibits in Maine and throughout the US. Currently her sculpture can be seen in Maine at The Yarmouth Frame Gallery, The Caldbeck Gallery in Rockland, and at June LaCombe Sculpture exhibits. Anne was chosen to be artist in residence at The Maine Farmland Trust- Joseph A. Fiore Art Center in Dresden, Maine in September 2017.
Anne carves her sculptures using logs scavenged from Maine woodlots or wood destined for the woodstove. She often begins her process with power tools, but carves details using the traditional carver’s tools of a mallet and chisels or gouges. Anne’s sculpture is inspired by observations of Maine’s natural world. She is especially interested in germination, growth, regeneration, and life cycles, and through her sculpture Anne seeks to explore and enhance a spiritual and physical connection to the natural world.
